About Us
BHCC – Hospital and Clinic Outreach is a registered NPO, started as the Baragwanath Hospital Comforts Committee in 1954 by a group of doctors' wives from Baragwanath Hospital, aimed at providing basic necessities to destitute patients. It has since expanded to provide a wide range of outreach services to patients at many public hospitals and clinics in the Greater Johannesburg Region.
Our aim is to preserve the dignity of inpatients and to assist with nutrition for outpatients attending Johannesburg’s public health clinics and hospitals. We currently assist over 300 000 patients per annum with food, toiletries, clothing, blankets, therapy aids and transportation money.
The Charity is a registered Non-Profit Organization and Public Benefit Organization with Section 18A Tax deduction status. We rely solely on donations, both monetary and in kind. BHCC is managed by an executive committee of volunteer members who strive to ensure that all donor funds reach the beneficiaries for whom the money was intended.
We hold monthly committee meetings in Fourways, Johannesburg where donated goods are packaged, sorted and allocated to the various clinics and hospitals that we support. Each BHCC volunteer engages with a healthcare worker representing a specific clinic or hospital, who arranges distribution of all our donations.
We receive regular updates, photographs and feedback from each clinic and hospital to ascertain needs and verify the distribution of all our donated items.
